Your house is on fire but there is still a little girl sleeping in the bedroom on the second floor.

【点拨】 be on fire“着火”,指状态,而catch fire指动作。

Don't smoke. Things here catch fire easily.

【引申】 fire作名词时的常用短语有:make a fire生火;play with fire玩火;set fire to / set on fire放火烧 / 使燃烧;start / cause a fire 引起火灾;cook meat over the fire 在火上烤肉;light a fire点火;open fire on对……开火;put out a fire灭火。

Before she could move, she heard a loud noise.

Someone called me up in the middle of the night, but they hung up before I could answer the phone.

Put down the telephone number before you forget it.

It will not be long before we know the result of the experiment.

Jeff and Flora looked into each other's face with a look of fright.

You gave me (quite) a fright suddenly coming in here like that.

The animals took fright at the sound of the gun.

The children's shouts frightened off the birds.

Frightened children were calling for their mothers.

He looked very frightened as he spoke.

It is frightening even to think of the horrors of nuclear war.

Another wave struck the house and a strange cracking noise began.

Strike the iron while it's hot.

We should try to help the people in the famine-stricken areas.

The clock has just struck twelve.

I was struck with a wonderful idea.
