【答】 佩佩同学，你好！in place of意为“代替”，而in the place of... 意为“在……位置上”、“在……地方”。如：
Will you go in place of me? 你能代替我去吗？
A new school is set up in the place of the old one. 在学校的旧址上建起了一所新学校。
in possession of = possessing, having possession, 意为“拥有”。而in the possession of = possessed by，意为“（某物）为（某人）所有”。如：
The library is in possession of several sets of encyclopedias. 图书馆存有好几套百科全书。
The rare stamp is in the possession of an unknown collector. 那张珍奇的邮票现在为一位不知名的收藏家所有。
