disappoint是个重要的动词，它的用法与许多表示情感的动词（如excite, encourage, surprise）类似。因此，掌握它的用法，我们可以轻松解决一类词的用法。
1. 【动词用法】 disappoint sb.
disappoint是个及物动词，后接sb.，表示“使某人失望”。如：
Our football team didn't appear in the 2006 World Cup matches, which disappointed all the football fans. 我们的足球队没有出现在2006年世界杯比赛中，这使所有球迷非常失望。
2． 【其形容词形式用法】 disappointed; disappointing
disappoint的分词形式已经形容词化，disappointed指人，表“感到失望的”，常用表达有：①be / feel disappointed at / about sth.; ②be / feel disappointed with sb.; ③be / feel disappointed to do sth.; ④be / feel disappointed +that从句；disappointing指物，表“令人失望的”。如：
We were all disappointed at the news that our picnic was cancelled because of the rain. 因为下雨我们的野餐被取消了。我们对此消息都感到失望。
The fans were disappointed to see their favorite contestant go out in the contest. 歌迷们看到他们最喜爱的选手在比赛中被淘汰感到很失望。
She said she couldn't attend my birthday party, which was very disappointing. 她说她不能参加我的生日聚会了，这很令人失望。
3． 【其名词形式用法】 disappointment
a disappointment表示“一件令人失望的事”或“令人扫兴的人”；to one's disappointment表示“使某人失望的是”，前者中的disappointment为可数名词，后者中的disappointment为不可数名词。如：
Not getting the job was really a disappointment. 没有获得那份工作真叫人失望。
He bought a new apartment in Shanghai last year. But to his disappointment, the prices of houses have gone down ever since the beginning of this year. 他去年在上海买了一套房子。但是使他失望的是，从今年年初开始，房价一直在跌。
4． 【巧记法】 其实，可以通过以下的句型转换来巧记disappoint的各种用法。
这条令人失望的消息使我失望。
The disappointing news disappointed me. = The disappointing news made me disappointed. =I was disappointed at the disappointing news. =To my disappointment, the news was disappointing. =The news was disappointing, which was a disappointment to me.
