| 1. Purposes
日常生活中当你遇到不会的问题，更多的是你不愿回答的问题时，你怎么办呢？这时，最直接、最常用的回答常是“对不起，我不知道！”或“不知道！”但这种回答在很多时候让人感到略有不适的感觉，甚至可能会得罪人，那么怎样回答才能委婉一些呢？
2. Useful Expressions
Formal expressions:
I've no idea.
I barely know how to...
Sorry, I really can't tell.
Sorry, I haven't the suitable idea.
Sorry, I don't know. Why don't you ask...?
I'm sorry. You might ask...
... told me once, but I don't remember.
I must admit, I don't know.

Informal expressions:

3. A Situational Dialogue
(Two students are talking about their new-coming teacher.)
A: Is that man talking with some students over there our new-coming teacher?
B: I've no idea.
A: Can you guess how old he is?
B: I really don't know. He must be in his late forties, judging from his appearance.
A: Someone says he's very strict with his students.
B: Oh, really? I haven't the slightest idea about that. But do you think he's a good teacher?
A: I couldn't say for sure. We'll find out about that later. |
