Nowadays, more people are using cell-phones and there is also an increase in travelling by air. Naturally, more people want to use their cellphones while travelling by plane. However, they cannot.

The funny thing is that there has been no evidence of a cellphone signal causing a disturbance (扰乱) in the flight.

If you use the fixed-line telephone (固定电话) on the plane, it can be really expensive. In America, this kind of telephone charges three dollars a minute, and 15% of the income of the flight comes from the telephone bill.

In 1998, an Englishman named Neil Whitehouse was sent to prison for one year because he refused to turn off the cellphone.

Swiss investigators  (调查者) assumed that the LX498 air accident was possibly related to the cellphone disturbance, which left 10 people dead.

Last month, a plane that was flying to Sarajevo suddenly became alarmed and was forced to land. Investigators found a cellphone in a piece of luggage that had been left on.

Flight crew insist that using cellphones during the flight is very dangerous, and many facts support that claim (断言).

Although there is no factual evidence (事实证据) to prove this, the cellphone disturbance can affect the plane in some circumstances (情况).

So, why do people have to use cell- phones on the plane anyway?

People have a busy work schedule and sometimes need to keep in touch with others during a flight.

There is one explanation that sounds reasonable. The frequency between a cell-phone and a plane’s equipment is different, and this may be the cause of any disturbance.

With the rapid development of technology, they will surely figure this out soon.

True (T) or False (F):

1. The cellphone is forbidden but you can use the fixed-line telephone on the plane. (  )

2. The factual evidence that using the cell- phone on the plane is dangerous is the frequency between a cellphone and a plane’s equipment. (  )

3. If you refused to turn off the cellphone on the plane you would be sent to in prison. (  )
